I will never forget walking out the door, leaving our first gathering of the Birthday Club. Not knowing what to expect, and not knowing all the women, I was somewhat hesitant and skeptical of the idea. During the course of the evening however, a magical transformation took place as if someone had thrown fairy dust over us. The evening seemed to transcend time. Suddenly, people I had only just met or hardly knew, became my closest friends. We were all so comfortable with each other and uninhibited. It was almost like going back to my childhood, where I felt so free and relaxed.

What I felt was a sense of euphoric satisfaction. It was a very rare evening. On a scale of 1-10, my happiness measured 11!

I've never really felt comfortable in groups. They're hard for me. Despite that, I've discovered I really enjoy the people in the birthday club and we always have a great time together and lots of laughs. Also, when it was my turn to take charge, I loosened up and tapped into a part of me I didn't know I had- being able to lead a social group. Can you imagine, shy me?!

When we get together, we leave the trivial day-to-day concerns behind and connect to the most real and vital parts of ourselves. We even go beyond our 'ordinary' selves to discover new creative sides we didn't know were there. I can't think of any other place in my life that brings all that out so easily or deeply. This is bonding at its best!! The “Happy Birthday Poems” activity had us splitting our guts. Such simplicity and such brilliance came out of everyone. We moved on to the “Question Tellers” [activity] and discovered so much about each other – when was the last time anyone of us was able to really talk about ourselves in such a warm and friendly atmosphere? Entering this class I had no idea it would mean doing something creative by and for myself. I am a pretty good implementer of other's ideas, but being really creative on the most basic of levels isn't one of my strong suits. As a boy, many years ago my artistic efforts were laughed at and I was given the message that art was for girls or wimps, not for athletes. So for me, as a man, to paint a picture after so many years gave me a tremendous sense of joy, relaxation, excitement and just plain fun.

Tzippi's dream course is terrific. She is a very knowledgeable and gifted teacher/facilitator. She treads a delicate line between education and counseling that does not require participants to divulge personal material that they prefer not to deal with in a group setting. Yet it enables the dream student to gain new and valuable insights into their unconscious life, and offers a variety of techniques for decoding dreams. Since first taking her course several years ago I have become a regular dream journaler, and I feel that this has greatly enhanced my connection to my emotional life.
