What is a Women’s Birthday Club?
A Women’s Birthday Club is a group of between 6 to 10 women that meet on a quarterly or seasonal basis to celebrate the birthdays of that season together in a creative, magical and communal way. But, feel free to experiment.
How can I start my own Women’s Birthday Club?
You can approach your friends who are open to celebrating in a fun and adventurous way. If you’re even more adventurous, have each friend bring a friend into the group. A Dash of Soul outlines this in greater detail and what things to be careful of.
How do I join a Women’s Birthday Club?
The best way to join a Women’s Birthday Club is by starting one with your friends.
Are Women’s Birthday Club members obligated to do anything?
You cannot obligate anyone to participate in your celebrations. Yet, there is an understanding in forming such a club that all the women will share in the party making to the best of their skills and abilities. Take advantage of the diverse abilities and traits among your WBC members to make the best of your party celebrations. For example, in our club, we women have very different personalities, and yet, each of us contributes something very special to the group.
What does it cost to become a member of a Women’s Birthday Club?
The cost is not monetary. It’s a matter of being open to taking a risk and having a lot of fun!! The cost of activities that are described in A Dash of Soul is absolutely minimal.
How did the Women’s Birthday Club originate?
In a difficult time in the lives of some of the members, one of the women, threw me a party based on creative activities that each woman organized. A year later, I initiated another celebration, which then lead to quarterly celebrations that have been ongoing for the last five years.
How many women were in the first club?
We were eight women when we started and now we’ve grown to nine members.
Is it important for everyone to know each other before forming a club?
No, and as a matter of fact, the only common link to our initial club was me.
What ages is the Women’s Birthday Club geared to?
While younger and older women and even men can enjoy these activities, the range most likely to celebrate is women from their 30’s through their 70’s.
Do you allow new people to attend?
We tried that without great success, primarily because the Club had been ongoing for quite a while and a deep comradery has been established. If you choose to form a Women’s Birthday Club, inviting new members is certainly an option earlier on, when you’re choosing whether to set up an open or closed group.
Who decides on the activities you do?
We rotate responsibility that each time, anywhere between 2 to 4 women bring activities, coordinating amongst themselves, so that there is a nice blend of activities.
Where do you get your ideas?
I guess one of the best ways to generate new ideas is to buy A Dash of Soul.
What if my friends and I aren’t creative?
Everybody is creative, whether they realize it or not, and A Dash of Soul is a perfect way for you to rediscover that.
If I don’t want to form a Women’s Birthday Club yet, can I throw a one time party?
Absolutely! In fact, A Dash of Soul is organized so that each activity is listed as being appropriate for Women’s Birthday Club and/or large celebration activities. You may even want to start with a one-time celebration, which will most likely get you started on forming a Women’s Birthday Club, especially after you see how much fun everyone has.
Are the stories in your upcoming book, A Dash of Soul, true?
Some aspects of the stories are based on facts. And, naturally, many of the elements have been changed in order to protect the identity of the women involved. Yet, the soul of celebration and challenges in women’s lives are very true to form.
